557. Title & Author: Legion: The Many Lives of Stephen Leeds by Brandon Sanderson (352 pages)
Genre: Fiction–Thriller
Completed: 28 January 2023
Summary & Review:
Stephen Leeds lives in two worlds simultaneously: reality and a world peopled with his various hallucinations. These aspects, as he calls them, allow him to tame the destructive voices in his head and funnel them into separate personas each with his own expertise and skills. Using these aspects, Leeds is able to become quite wealthy by solving crimes and helping those in need. But, as his grip on his sanity starts to give, he must find the woman who helped him in the beginning.
I’ve only ever read books by Sanderson in his Mistborn trilogy (which are absolutely awesome), so it was fun to see him write a more modern story. This kindle book is made up of three separate novellas stitched together to present the entire Stephen Leeds cycle in one place.
I appreciated the way Sanderson jumped into the middle of Leeds’ development, not dwelling on an origin story. He deftly provided the reader with the necessary information to understand what was going on and who Leeds was without tediously going through the backstory. It was straight into the action in a world fully fleshed out already. Nice!
