Summary & Review:
During the latter half of the nineteenth century, the king of Bavaria Ludwig II went on a building spree. With dreams of being like the medieval kings of lore, Ludwig created a fairytale castle set in the alps near the Austrian border. While construction was never completed and Ludwig only lived in the castle for 170 some odd days, what remains is a breath taking structure in a gorgeous setting. This book is the official guide to the royal castle of Neuschwanstein and includes the history of the castle and explanations of the art and architecture.
While only the King’s quarters were finished when Ludwig II mysteriously died, what is available to see on the tour is outstanding. It was a fairly short tour, approximately thirty minutes, due to how many visitors go through this castle on a daily basis so reading this guide was a great way to see and learn about the castles in a more in-depth manner. The reproductions of the art work and rooms in the castle were excellent.
