Summary & Review:
President Gordon B. Hinckley, the fifteenth prophet and president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, presents core values that have been neglected and forgotten in our modern societies. To help solve some of the grave problems facing the modern world, President Hinckley advises that we should return to these virtues and cultivate them in our homes and families: love, honesty, morality, civility, learning, forgiveness and mercy, thrift and industry, gratitude, optimism, and faith.
President Hinckley wrote this book for a broad audience, not just for members of the church. Thus, the book was not a sermon about the truth of the restored gospel, but a guide for a healthy society, no matter your religion. After presenting chapters based on each of the ten virtues, President Hinckley emphasized that the key for these virtues to be learned, cultivated, and adopted by society is strong marriages and families.
During my formative years, President Hinckley was the prophet. He served in that calling from 1995 until his death in 2008. He had such a large effect on me that I think I was always hold him in a special place among the leaders of the church. I miss his wit, love, and wisdom.
