48. Title & Author: Obsession (An Alex Delaware Novel) by Jonathan Kellerman (458 pages)*
Genre: Fiction--Crime, Mystery, and Suspense
Completed: 2 August 2008

Summary & Review:
Clinical psychiatrist Alex Delaware gets a call from a former patient of his requesting a meeting. The patient, a 19 year-old girl named Tanya, says that before her mother died recently, she confessed to killing someone and had told her to get Dr. Delaware's help. Even though Alex assumed Tanya's mother could never have actually killed someone, he looks into it with the help of his friends in the LAPD. Together they unravel a complex series of crimes and murders spanning the better part of a decade. But, who's behind them?

I thought the strongest part of this book was the dialogue that Kellerman did a great job with. It was entertaining, witty, and wasn't stagnant. The plot, though, was a little overly-complex and it seemed like it was that way just to be complex for the sake of complex complexity. There were dozens of characters that at times were hard to get straight and the connections between all the characters were often a little strained.
