27. Title & Author: Frederick the Great by Gerhard Ritter, translated by Peter Paret (201 pages)
Genre: Nonfiction--History & Biography
Completed: 24 February 2008
Summary & Review:
This book is a collection of essays and lectures given by the German scholar Gerhard Ritter about the enlightened state-builder of Prussia, Frederick the Great.
I really enjoyed the opening chapters of this biography. They were more general and gave a broad picture of who Frederick was and the times he lived in. After that, the chapters focused on the finer aspects of Frederick's rule and I had to discipline myself to finish it. It was a quality work, just not on a topic I have an intense interest in. Maybe if it was art history...
