26. Title & Author: Wild Fire by Nelson DeMille (706 pages)*Genre: Fiction--Thriller
Completed: 20 February 2008
Summary & Review:Detective John Corey and his wife investigate the mysterious murder of their friend and colleague at the Custer Hill Club, a private hunting lodge in the Adirondacks with members from positions of power throughout the country. As they do so, they uncover a plan code named Project Green that hopes to eliminate "Sandland" (the Middle East) forever by triggering an automatic retaliatory nuclear strike against those nations by the United States.
The most interesting part of this book was the idea behind it. Wild Fire is a rumored government ultimatum: If any American city is attacked with a WMD by Islamic terrorists, then an automatic retaliatory nuclear strike would hit 164 different targets in the Middle East. How about that for an ultimatum? Like the author says in his introductory note, if we don't have something like this set up, we should.
