Summary & Review:
With only years before the human race goes extinct due to the loss of heat from the sun after an alien microbe infects it, the planet unites to send a spaceship out to a faraway star to learn why it isn’t dying from the same infection. Three astronauts embark on this one-way trip to save humanity, but only one wakes up from the induced coma when they arrive at the star. While he may be the only human life there, he soon realizes he isn’t alone.
After taking a while to get into the book, by the end I really ended up liking it. The main character, Ryland Grace, really reminded me of Mark Watney from The Martian (#348). He was snarky and sarcastic and amazingly talented at a huge array of things, but in the end, he was a brave person who did the right thing. The alien character that Grace met, Rocky, was probably my favorite character in the book. While I don't think this book would work very well as a movie, it would be interesting to see it turned into one.
