Summary & Review:
Elder Tad R. Callister, currently of the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints examines the miracle of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. From the preordination of the Savior, to his crucifixion and resurrection, Elder Callister takes the reader through the steps and meanings of these incredible acts. Additionally, several chapters are devoted to explaining how we as followers of Christ can apply the Atonement in our lives and remember what the Savior has done for us.
This was an excellent, scholarly study of the Atonement. Much like Elder James E. Talmage’s Jesus the Christ, The Infinite Atonement offers the reader new insights that cause him to reflect and expand his understanding of what Christ did for us all. Elder Callister openly recognizes the difficulty of attempting to boil down all that the Atonement encompasses into a single volume, but I think he succeeded. While perhaps not every aspect of every part of the Atonement was fully examined, this book was more than enough to allow the reader to gain a deeper understanding of, and appreciation for, what took place.
This book was a gift from my mother.
