Summary & Review:
This book is a collection of
many of conservative commentator Jonah Goldberg’s cover stories from the print
edition of National Review.
While I
had already read a couple of these essays when they were first published in National Review, I enjoyed this
collection. The opening essay was about Goldberg’s trip to ANWR, the Arctic
National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, to check out the oil drilling operations
there. It was an eye opening article. Environmentalists and anti-oil activists
make ANWR seem like a frozen utopia with polar bears frolicking and caribou
lounging in the shade of majestic mountains. According to Goldberg, that is not
the reality on the ground in ANWR. He found a vast, barren wasteland infested
with millions of mosquitoes and lacking any sort of scenic beauty at the locations where drilling would occur. If there is
anywhere on earth where we should be drilling, this is the place.
