8. Title & Author: The Foreign Correspondent by Alan Furst (230 pages)Genre: Fiction--Mystery
Completed: 2 July 2007
Summary & Review:
Carlo Weisz, an Italian emigre in Paris, becomes the editor of a clandestine newspaper that opposes Fascism in Italy. As such, he becomes the target of friends and foes as he travels throughout Europe. Along the way he rekindles a love with a German national, Christa, and struggles to help her escape the clutches of the Gestapo and flee to France.
This book was fairly well written, but surprisingly boring. The story just never went anywhere. There was no climax and no really captivating storyline. It left me thinking, "What was the point of that book?" But, here is a funny quote, at least it was good for that..., "Fine, then let the British do the jumping up, though we both know they won't, not until it's their turn to eat Adolf's wiener schnitzel."
