487. Title & Author: I Am Watching You by Teresa Driscoll (293 pages)
Genre: Fiction--Thriller
Completed: 9 December 2019
Summary & Review:
On her way to a convention in London, Ella notices two girls being approached by two rather rough-looking young men. Initially, she thinks nothing of it, but when one of those teenage girls goes missing, Ella finds herself in the middle of the hunt for the girl. Unfortunately, someone blames Ella for the girl’s disappearance and makes it clear that she is being watched and will be held accountable.
I really enjoyed the first thirty or so pages of this book, but then it went downhill for me. Far too much of the book was fabricated suspense by the author simply not telling us information that all the various narrators already knew. I find it much more enjoyable when the reader discovers unknown information along with the narrator. When the narrator already knows all the hidden info it just feels like a cheap way to try and keep the reader interested by not telling him. Also, there were some pretty weird side storylines included that didn’t quite seem to add much to the story.
